It is our mission to facilitate access to health care for all with a focus
on the needs of the uninsured. Knowledge about health and wellness makes possible
healthier lifestyle choices and better healthcare choices. The Ithaca Health Alliance
works to make health information freely available.
The choices we make about how we live our lives directly affect health. Everything from diet
and exercise to the environment we live in and the activities we use for personal satisfaction
are factors that influence our health. When our physical and mental wellbeing becomes out of
balance, we make choices about what sort of care to receive and what treatments to use to improve
the situation and become healthier again. Everyone has to make their own decisions about what
they can and will do, and everyone has their own unique needs. The Ithaca Health Alliance is
committed to helping people learn about how these different factors affect health and make
informed personal choices about healthcare.
IHA sponsors and cosponsors educational programs as opportunity allows; these are announced
locally and through our online calendar. In addition to specific
informational events, IHA supports free access to health information through
library resources and publishes a quarterly newsletter. Our
newsletter is available for free download on this website.
Printed copies are made freely available at the Ithaca Free Clinic and many other
locations in Tompkins County.
Ithaca Health Alliance Executive Director Abbe Lyons and Jens Wennberg, a
volunteer Physician Assistant at Ithaca Free Clinic, were featured January 17, 2013 on
"Out of Bounds," a public
radio program that "features intimate 30 minute interviews with visionaries: people living,
working and thinking outside the mainstream." A direct link to this show is
