Information for Ithaca Free Clinic Patients

At Ithaca Free Clinic we provide 100% free conventional and holistic medicine services for our visitors. Anyone who does not have health insurance is welcome to come to the free clinic to receive care. If you have insurance which does not cover holistic/alternative medicine, and cannot afford these services, you can receive these services at IFC. Although we will not turn anyone away on their first visit, if you have insurance (including Medicare/Medicaid or other public insurance), we will work with you to find a primary care provider who can take care of your needs on a regular basis.

In most cases, you do not need to make an appointment before seeking care at Ithaca Free Clinic. We are committed to making health care available to anyone who needs it, and plan clinic sessions so that people can simply walk in and request care. You should come to the clinic prepared with any relevant information about your health history, medications you use, or personal needs. We try to keep waiting times to a minimum, but depending on how many people come to the clinic each day, we can have a lot of people at IFC. Please understand that we and our volunteers are all committed to providing the best care that we can, and that we will see everyone in the order they arrived. If we simply cannot see everyone who comes on one day, we will make appointments for anyone else.

Because many holistic providers require between half an hour to an hour for consultations with patients, they can see fewer patients per clinic session than biomedical professionals, and we also do not have every form of holistic medicine represented by the volunteers on shift for each open clinic. We make appointments available in advance for holistic providers. Please call our clinic coordinator at 607-330-1254 or email him at clinic@ithacahealth.org to find out when we will next have a holistic provider at the clinic, and what appointments are available. After being seen at IFC, you may be asked to make a follow-up appointment before you leave the clinic, if the provider thinks this is necessary. Our discharge volunteers can help you to set one up.

Because the amount of time available during each clinic session is limited, we do not provide physicals during regular clinic hours. You may call our clinic coordinator to make an appointment for a physical (607-330-1254), which are offered on the 4th Tuesday of each month. We offer physicals for adults only at this time - for pediatric examinations we will refer you to another agency.

We do not have laboratory facilities at Ithaca Free Clinic. For blood tests, diagnostic scanning services, or other lab work, we refer patients to the Tompkins County Health Department or Cayuga Medical Center.
